Each conference attendee visiting Canada is responsible to have their own appropriate documents to enter Canada. Please inquire with the closest Canadian Consulate or Canadian Embassy as to the requirements to enter Canada.

Most visitors need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization to come to Canada. You do not need a Canadian visa or an eTA to enter Canada if you are travelling with a valid U.S. passport.

Find out if you need a visa to come to Canada at the following link:

Attendance at a conference such as NRB 2019 Symposium and Workshop  is considered to be a cross-border business activity and therefore you will be considered a business visitor.

Government of Canada Information on visiting Canada on business

If you require a visa we strongly advise that after registering for the Symposium you request a “letter of invitation” (see bottom of this page) to the Symposium. The letter of invitation will indicate that you are entering Canada as a Business Visitor and will include the duration of the symposium. The “letter of invitation” will facilitate your entry into Canada and the processing of visa applications.

If you are speaking at the symposium, the invitation letter for Business Visitor will include the period day and duration of your presentation.

Submission of Visa Applications: Online or in-person?

Canada does not have a visa office in every country so it is important that delegates visit the website of the visa office responsible for processing their visa applications.  Information is available on the IRCC website on how to submit a visa application and the documentation required.

You can also attend one of the available Visa Application Centres around the world to apply.  The Visa Application Centre (VAC) only provides general information and administrative services related to temporary resident applications, such as temporary resident applications, study and work permits.

Delegates are encouraged to submit their visa applications well in advance of the date of the event.

Please visit the IRCC website for information on the time it takes to process visa applications at the various visa offices.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Apply for an ETA,
